A PHILLIES fan gained infamy again, though this time, he may not like to remember the reason for it. In the game on Monday night, the fan had jumped a fence and run on the field during a Phillies game against St Louis Cardinals, when security used a Taser gun to apprehend him. This incident, which is being investigated over the appropriateness of the use of force, comes after a drunk Phillies fan intentionally puked over a child, when he was reprimanded for rude behaviour.
The 17 year old fan, who has been identified by Philadelphia newspapers as Steve Consalvi, had hopped the fence and run onto the outfield on Monday night. Clad in a baseball cap, khaki shorts and a red T-shirt, he dodged to security guards, who tried to apprehend him. One then took out a taser gun and tasered the Phillies fan, after which he fell down. Spectators took great delight and the pursuit and were seen stifling laughter at the scene.
Bonnie Clark, spokesperson for the Phillies stated that the police were investigating the matter. They were also talking with the team management over the appropriateness of using the taser gun, she added.
On the other hand, Lt Frank Vanore, a police spokesperson said that investigation into the matter will be undertaken by police Internal affair.
The Phillies fan tasered on Monday, will face criminal tresspass and other related charges for his run, though a few believe he may be let go due to the Taser incident. His name was not released by the Phillies officially, because they stated that he was a juvenile.
A report from Philadelphia states that the Phillies fan tasered on the occasion, was neither drunk nor on drugs; he had in fact, even asked his father before starting the run. This is not the first time a fan jogged on to the field during an MLB game, though the first time one was subdued with a taser gun for this reason.
