A basic insight into Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disorder that causes inflammation of the joints. Apart from the joints it can also cause inflammation of the tissue around the joint as well as other organs of the body. These autoimmune diseases are caused when the body's tissues are attacked by their own immune system by mistake. Rheumatoid arthritis is a non curable illness which can continue for years together. Rheumatoid arthritis is a progressive illness that can cause potential joint destruction or can accelerate functional disability apart from being referred to as systematic illness.

The symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis includes swelling, pain, stiffness, and redness in the joints. The inflammation due to rheumatoid arthritis on the tissue around the joints causes inflammation in the tendons, ligaments, and muscles. People who experience high degrees of inflammation due to rheumatoid illness experience destruction of the cartilage, bone, and ligaments, causing deformity of the joints.

The illness may sometimes be genetic and in the United States itself approximately 1.3 million people are suffering from it. The common rheumatic disease affects women three times more than it does to men. A person can be subjected to it an any age but it usually starts post 40 years and before 60. Rheumatoid arthritis at times being genetic it also affects multiple members in the same family.
