Political brinkmanship should be avoided over development

IT WAS certainly improper on part of Union Railway Minister when West Bengal Chief Minister was not invited to foundation-stone laying-ceremony of a new Metro-Line in Kolkatta by President of India on September 22,  forcing the state Chief Minister to skip the dinner hosted by state government in honour of the President.

President’s Secretariat should take up the matter with all seriousness with Union Railway Ministry to express concern over this incident which unnecessarily dragged President of India in such deliberate show of insult to a state Chief Minister only because of political enmity with Union Railway Minister. After all Indian Railways is a public-body which should not be taken as private institution run by a Union Railway Minister.

The union government should also intervene in the matter and ensure that the things go accorrding to protocol and political battles are not fought on developmental issues. The government of  West Bengal and its chief minister are the most important stakeholders in the new Metro project and it was a wrong step not to invite the CM, who later decided to skip the state dinner.
