Andhra attracts investors from Korea, Singapore


A DELEGATION from government of Andhra Pradesh, headed by Minister for Major Industries Kanna Lakshmi Narayana visited South Korea, Indonesia and Singapore from October 25th to November 3rd. The other members of the delegation included Principal Secretary (Food Processing) J C Sharma, Commissioner of Industries R Karikal Valaven, APSFC Managing Director Vikas Raj and CII Southern Region Director S Kannan.

 

The main purpose of the visit was to generate interest in investments in Andhra Pradesh, exploring the possibilities of joint ventures in important sectors and infrastructure projects and for mobilising investors and to invite the delegation for the proposed Global Investors Summit in Hyderabad, in September 2011.

Several companies in South Korea and Singapore expressed their interest to invest in manufacturing, infrastructure and other sectors. Singapore Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang promised to motivate Singapore business leaders to invest in Andhra Pradesh. Kanna Lakshmi Narayana suggested them with the constitution of a consortium with Government of Andhra Pradesh.

The Korea Importers Association has promised to mobilise more investments in the field of electronics and automobile ancillary units. Hyundai Motors promised to go ahead with its proposal to establish an Automobile ancillary unit in Nellore and expressed confidence to take off in the second half of next year.

The Lotte Company from South Korea, expressed its desire to start retail business to begin with and to have a manufacturing unit at a later date in food processing, besides taking over some Indian beverage companies, if possible.

 

Minister Kanna Lakshmi Narayana handed over a letter from Chief Minister Dr K Rosaiah to the top management of Samsung Electronics in South Korea inviting them to establish a mobile phone manufacturing company unit in Andhra Pradesh to which they attracted a positive response.

 

Many members of Singapore Telugu Association had expressed their willingness to make considerable investment in small and medium scale sector in Andhra Pradesh. They also expressed willingness to establish A.P Tourism Centre at Singapore in order to tap huge potential available in tourism sector by show-casing A.P as a desirable destination of Spiritual/Religious Tourism, Health Tourism and Heritage Tourism.

Chang Lit Chuang, the CEO of International Enterprise, Singapore and Karan Singh, Chairman of Singapore Business Federation appreciated the mission of the delegation and expressed their willingness to extend all support in mobilising large scale investments in A.P.

 

The delegation visited the Juron Chemicals and Petro Chemicals Hub in Singapore and were surprised to see the infrastructure and large number of chemical and petro chemical industries available in a limited space available and felt AP Can emulate these practices to build chemical and petro chemical infrastructure.

 

The delegation had made an elaborate study of the service industry and small scale industries in Bali, Indonesia. It saw immense support from the Government of the small scale industry and the service industry can be replicated in the Tourist Center of AP.

2. Asia Cement Co. Ltd – Cement manufacturing,
3. Samjung Electric Co. Ltd- Electronic hardware,
4. Dosan heavy industries & construction – Heavy engineering

 

The following companies in Singapore had expressed their willingness to make immediate investments:


1. Building and Construction Authority – sourcing investment of other country,
2. VTU Millennium (s) Ltd Pte Ltd – Solar panel manufacturing,
3. Manpower Inc – solar panel manufacturing,
4. Sembcorp Industries Ltd – Power plant and other infrastructure development,
5. Meinhardt (Singapore) Pte Ltd – Infrastructure development,
6. The Singapore Contractor Association Ltd – Infrastructure development,
7. Hydrochem (s) Pte Ltd – infrastructure development
