Valley observed partial strike, curfew in Baramulla district

UNDER THE call for strike given by Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the people across Kashmir Valley observed a partial strike on Thursday (November 11) as the authorities imposed curfew in some parts of Baramulla district.

Continuing its protest calendar, Geelani called for a complete strike on Thursday. However, keeping the Eid-ul-Azha celebration in view the people thronged to the markets for the festival’s shopping.

Even private passenger buses and transport were seen plying on the roads. The strike even had no effect on the functioning of schools and government offices in the valley.

Meanwhile, authorities imposed curfew in some parts of Baramulla district to maintain law and order. Curfew was imposed after protesters started pelting stones against the arrest of a local youth Parvez Ahmad Kaloo of Cement Bridge Baramulla.

According to the police sources, the youth namely Parvez Ahmad Kaloo alias Mena Kumari was a stone pelter and was involved in instigating people for stone pelting in various parts of Baramulla district.

Police sources said the curfew has been imposed in Delina and Palhalan towns of Baramulla district as a precautionary measure.

They said there were no restrictions in rest of the Valley where the situation so far has remained peaceful.
