Indian shooters strike gold, archers win bronze

THE INDIAN women's archery team scripted history when they won an unexpected bronze medal in the women's compound team event in New Delhi on Thursday. The team which comprised of Gagandeep Kaur, Jhano Hansdah and Bheigyabati Chanu defeated Malaysia by 223-219 at Yamuna Sports Complex. On the victory, an elated Gagandeep said that it's the first medal for India in Games archery. I am excited to be part of this. We tried our best in the semi-finals but it did not happen.

 

India was defeated by Canada in the semi-finals by a seven point difference with a score of 224-217.

Gagan Narang, Anisa Sayyed win Gold in CWG 2010 shooting event

ONCE AGAIN Indian shooters proved their supremacy in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2010 and won two gold medals today. First Gagan Narang targeted for gold in 10 m Air Rifle Men Singles Final  and later Anisa Sayyed in the 25 m Pistol Women Singles final at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting range.

Earlier today, two of the best Indian shooters Gagan Narang and Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra won gold and silver medal in the 10 m Air Rifle Men Singles Final. Narang shot a perfect 600 and equaled his own world record. It was third gold medal for India

Kashmiri students want freedom from illiteracy

VOICES OF dissent against strikes in Kashmir have begun to emerge as a group of students and parents after breaking their silence against the continuous spell of strikes held a protest march at Press Enclave Srinagar on Tuesday.

 

Carrying placards like "Education is our birth right’’, ``We want freedom from illiteracy, poverty and exploitation’’, ``Please allow us to go back to schools’’, the students appealed the civil society to impress upon the separatists to exempt schools from strikes.

Lionel Messi wins Golden Boot award

ARGENTINA's SENSATIONAL striker Lionel Messi has won the coveted Golden Boot Award this year. Messi being the top scorer last year in Europe’s domestic league was declared the winner of the coveted award.

 

In a ceremony held in the Spanish city, Barcelona on Thursday, Messi was honoured with the Golden Boot award.

 

The 23-year old striker played for Barcelona in the prestigious La Liga European Soccer Championship. Messi scored 34 goals in the last season. The two other players in the race for the coveted award were Chelsea's Didier Drogba and Udinese's Antonio Di Natale.
