IT DOES not seem that Pakistan cricket will ever learn from their mistakes and one day it will continue to keep up their performances.
For quite sometime, Pakistan cricket has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, from match-fixing allegation to video-footage leakage. Former players, officials too keep the newsmen busy by saying something or the other.
Now, in the midst of the match-fixing issue, Pakistan captain’s comment on the leaked footage that during the Australian tour some of their top players were busy ogling girls in the stands, added more salt to the injury.
“Some of the players, once they have made some decent runs with the bat, would think their job is done and would go to field in the deep,” Afridi shown as saying.
Moreover, such allegation by one’s captain is a shameful act at international cricket’s standard. Shahid Afridi also complained that some of the players seemed, they just played for themselves.
The captain is also critical of their coach and was seen saying that the coach demoralised the players.
“There they would be busy chatting with the crowd, ogling girls and giving autographs. I have identified some players doing that. They just play for themselves,” said Afridi, who was part of the team that lost five ODIs in Australia.
He also hinted that match-fixing might have taken place though there is no evidence.
So, altogether it is very shameful not just for Pakistan cricket, but it is a matter of concern for the Asian cricketing fraternity. And also to remember that it would not do any good for the world cricket.
It is a high time that officials and the former players give a serious thought to this and try to find out a permanent solution.
