Chicago Blackhawks wins Stanley Cup, Blackhawks Parade details


THE CHICAGO Blackhawks captured their fourth Stanley Cup by defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 in overtime in game six of the National Hockey League (NHL) champion series.


Blackhawks won its first Stanley Cup since 1961 on Wednesday with the goal of Patrick Kane into overtime. Chicago had the longest drought of any Original Six teams.


The Chicago Blachhawks Parade 2010 will be held at 10:30 am Friday, June 11.
The celebratory ticker-tape parade and rally to celebrate the Championship will start at intersection of Wacker Drive and Washington Street. As per plan the Parade will proceed east on Washington Street to Michigan Ave, before heading north on Michigan to Wacker Drive.


The rally will take place approximately 11:30 am at Wacker and Michigan.
Kane said, “Wholly crap. This is something you dream of as kid to score the Stanley Cup winning goal.”


Canadian Jonathan Toews was named MVP of the finals. Toews handed the trophy to teammate Marian Hossa who came up short the last two seasons while playing the finals with first Pittsburgh and then Detroit.


Hossa said, “I am so happy. The cup was so heavier than I thought. It is going to be a huge party going home. ”


The winning goal had to go to video review but it was a short one. All the celebration began as they mobbed Kane who watched the puck all the way to the back of the Flyers’ net.


The Hawks looked to be headed to their first NHL championship on 49 years late in the third but the Flyers tied the game with four minutes left in the third on a goal by Scott Hartnell.


Dustin Byfuglien, Patrick Sharp and Andrew Ladd scored goals for the Hawks. Captain Toews, who earned an assist and tied Dennis Savard’s franchise playoff record with 29 points in the playoffs.


Toews said, “Oh my God. Just like the commercial I am speechless. We knew from day one of the season we had the group to do it. To realize our goal is unbelievable.”


"It is the greatest feeling to win the Stanley Cu," he added.
Duncan Keith, Blackhawks defense man, lost seventh teeth in mission to capture the trophy.
