MELBOURNE BASED Sports Marketing and Management (SMAM) has come under the Enforcement Directorate's scanner for allegedly receiving payment of millions of dollars. The Australian company which was hired to get sponsorship for the upcoming Commonwealth Games has, however, denied getting any commission from the Organising Committee. The company also said that the reports are untrue and it is yet to be paid its outstanding amount.
Referring to the allegations, SMAM head, Mike Bushell said that the claims are disgraceful and he was not sure about what the agenda was. He further added that the company has already beaten the record sponsorship revenue they gained for Melbourne (USD 85 million). He also said that the company has not received a single rupee from Delhi yet and there's money overdue.
The statement from the company said that SMAM has always operated in full conformity with laws and regulations and any insinuation about inappropriate or unlawful activities is completely unfounded and without substance.
The company which had raised more than USD 110 million for the Australian Olympic Team was brought on board in July 2007 by the Delhi CWG OC to rope in sponsorship for the upcoming Commonwealth Games which will be held from October 3 to 14.
