Begging problem needs to be resolved without further delay

IN ANOTHER 37 years India’s independence will touch a century. One issue that needs to be resolved within the shortest possible time is eradication of beggars from cities, towns, districts and villages to enable the country proclaim that there are no beggars anymore and every person is looked after nicely in the country.

At the moment, this may seem to be a tall wish but I am sure by the time India reaches a century of independence, all the pressing issues including the gigantic problem of beggars would have been resolved helping the country scale upwards on numerous surveys involving social-economic and happiness quotient.

One way of getting getting rid of beggars from the scene could be  to launch a movement directed at their  upliftment. The best time to start this movement is NOW because for doing good work where sky is the limit, any time wasted is real time lost.

Some examples are given hereunder where attempts have been made to transform a beggar for leading a better life. I have come across one upliftment of a beggar, who would be sitting/sleeping in the pavement in a residential colony. Close to him there was a small two wheeler repairing garage and the owner of this garage would take the beggar’s help at times by giving him work like doing some errands or working as a security person during day/night time. The owner would also give him fresh clothes to wear at times besides giving him food and a few money at times.

During stormy whether he would be taking shelter under the garage. Other examples are in some communities, micro-finance is made available to some beggars, who would could start their own business as a vegetable/fruit vendor or hawkers selling different items in trains-buses-streets.

I hope once the issuing of identification number to every person living in the country is successfully over, this situation would enormously help the government in giving out doles to the beggars through various banks and also finding alternatives for their upliftment.

In some countries, police force has taken the responsibility of picking out beggars and providing them with accommodation and also placing them in jobs.

Hoping this tall hope is met with resounding success with the best of the options available so that our future generations will learn about beggars existed through history books.
