Durga puja all set to bedazzle everyone in Kolkata


THE INVOCATION  to gods started with festivities continuing for nine days. The star attraction of these festivities is the Durga Puja festival which has a massive following all across the country with the main hub being Kolkata apart from New Delhi and Mumbai.

 

Thousands of people flock to the pandals which are generally theme based. The puja of Goddess Durga varies from place to place. If Kolkata holds the badge for the best theme based programme, places like Cuttack too are equally popular for their intricate illuminations which mostly includes gold and silver.

 

In Kolkata, numerous devotees visited the Belur Math which is the global headquarters of Ramakrishna Missions to catch the first glimpse of 'Kumari Puja' or prayers offered to a pre-pubescent girl. The Kumari Puja is one of the biggest attractions during Durga Puja. As per the Hindu mythology, Kumari Puja was brought into practice so as to value women.

 

This year, apart from the idol of goddess Durga, other deities who will be sporting the gold crown are Ganesh, Kartik, Laxmi and Saraswati. year

 

Durga Puja in Kolkata will also have its share of celebrity presence with some of the big names in Bollywood marking their presence during the festival. As per actress Rani Mukherjee, Durga puja is a time when everybody should join together and celebrate, regardless of faith or religion.
