Can tailoring of suits be a good outsourcing proposition?

CAN TAILORING of suits be a lucrative outsourcing business proposition? The answer is very much yes provided the core business ethic of ‘value for money spent’ is strictly adhered to. Some businessmen are visiting developed countries and promising better quality suits through outsourcing technique. They advertise their visit well in advance and offer 50 per cent discounts or more to some of the well known brands. The master tailor takes the measurement and sends it through digital computers across to his site which could be located some 5,000 miles away.

By the time, he is through with one client; work for tailoring the specific suit would have been at his factory remotely located by experienced tailors based on the digital measurement sent. Once the suit is ready within four to five days, it is sent back through courier at the address registered while measurement is taken. It seems customers are satisfied through this mode outsourcing.

Perhaps, a good study could be done by the concerned Ministry in India and after getting sufficiently convinced could encourage entrepreneurs to take up on this business. If suits could be made for less than 50 per cent of the costs in both European and developed/developing countries with better stitching and better quality fabrics, business houses could be turned into profitable ventures. This will result in inflow of foreign exchange, create employment opportunities for many people, courier service will get a boost and relationship with friendly countries will be strengthened.
Experts can debate this issue from feasibility viewpoint. A good suit normally costs anywhere between 1,000 to 6,000 dollars. On an average, people go in for one or two suits during their lifetime; however, if suits with good quality made stuff are made affordable perhaps the number of suits owned by an average person will go up.
